Inspire & Transform

About Me

Hello!

Thanks for taking a look at my blog! I hope you find the writing to be of service to you, feel free to share it with friends and family (however I do ask that you please quote the source :) ). Feel free to leave comments and engage in a dialogue!

I am a graduate student living in Hamilton, eagerly waiting to finish my doctorate degree in medical sciences! Learning about health-related issues and to be involved in health care in some capacity has always a passion of mine. Having been in medical research for years, I have also studied illness and disease from the ‘bio-medical’ lens. It may be a seemingly odd contrast to have a scientist offer ‘holistic health’ therapies, as they traditionally stand on different premises! But I have realized that, in fact, they are not so different, they just stand in different places along the health management spectrum.

Interestingly, along with western and allopathic medicine, I have grown up with a vast exposure to eastern, holistic therapies out of my own innate curiosity. After going through a phase of repetitive viral infections, chronic (debilitating) back pain and other issues, I sought to bring ‘balance’ back into my life. I re-discovered the meditation and breathing practices that I had shelved away and by complete serendipity, came across my first Reiki teacher!

I have been practicing Reiki for 7 years now and get a chance to offer ‘touch’ to friends and co-workers on a daily basis. However, the word ‘Reiki’ is so over-used today that its practice is sadly losing the reverence it deserves. There are real benefits of energy work in personal healing, which can be imparted by an authentic practitioner. As a scientist, I first approached Reiki with an open but somewhat skeptical mind… I was just waiting to be humbled by its genuine power!

In my personal practice, it has helped me to transform my life, bring me to awe, overwhelm me with wholesomeness and shown me how to recognize and release my inner blockages (our so-called inner demons!). It has positively affected my relationships, old and current, brought solace to some chronic health conditions and balanced my inner self so that I can always bring myself back to a genuine smile given life’s ups and downs! :D

I have finally opened up my services to the public. If you resonate with what you read here, are curious or have questions, feel free to email! The purpose of this forum and of the services is to share what I have learned through direct experience and personal knowledge, in order to guide people to becoming their ‘best self’! Many of us don’t realize our true worth and potential – It is our RIGHT to lead a HAPPY and FULFILLED life!

The only reason I was able to effectively translate the gifts of inspiration, knowledge and skills into practice, experience and transformation, was because I had genuine mentors along the way. Cleaning out the closet creates a little bit of a mess! :) But isn’t the clean closet worth it! A mentor can play a key role to keep you on target and help you through the vulnerability. Think of them as a trainer, but for the spirit! A good mentor is always patient and never judgmental. In the end though, the courage to walk the path is yours, the fears to be faced are yours, BUT the love and contentment to be found are also yours. It starts and ends with YOU – the mentor serves as a compassionate witness, an honest mirror and an inner guide.

May you all believe at the core of your being, that to live in joy is your right and true inner desire. May you seek the goals that align with your heart’s true intent. May you find your reminders, lessons and mentors at the right place in your time of need.

My eternal gratitude to my Guru and Reiki mentor for being instrumental guides along my journey!

Thanks for visiting!

- Sumi
